The Center for Accountability, Modernization and Innovation (CAMI) supports Congressman Bacon’s Emergency SNAP Staffing Flexibility Act of 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C.— The Center for Accountability, Modernization, and Innovation (CAMI) issued the following statement from Board Chairman Stan Soloway in support of Congressman Don Bacon’s (R-NE) Emergency SNAP Staffing Flexibility Act:

“The Emergency SNAP Staffing Flexibility Act of 2021 will go a long way to addressing the well-documented challenges often faced by those in need when seeking to access SNAP benefits,” Soloway said. “Allowing for temporary staffing flexibility that supplements, not supplants, full-time employees offers states an option to address surges in demand for SNAP benefits generated by the pandemic or other unexpected events that drive up SNAP applications.

CAMI’s support for the Bacon legislation is due in large part to so many states being overwhelmed by pandemic-related surges, which are not expected to fully subside any time in the near future. During the pandemic, 41 states took advantage of unemployment insurance (UI) flexibility to process the surge in claims caused by the COVID pandemic. The Bacon bill extends similar flexibilities, at state option, to SNAP programs to handle surges in SNAP applications.”
